Recently awarded a Gold Level Certification in the Core and Shell category by the USGBC under the LEED-CS program, we were able to achieve 100% of the 42 points attempted. During the construction process, Mesirow Financial determined the most effective ways to create a sustainable development and meet the USGBC's Gold LEED certification credit requirements in areas such as energy and water efficiency, indoor air quality, use of sustainable building materials, project recycling and other sustainable features. As tenants and employees, we are proud to be able to enjoy the following benefits:
- High-efficiency plumbing resulting in over a 30% reduction in water use
- Over 75% of construction debris was recycled
- Capturing and reusing rainwater for exterior landscaping irrigation
- A portion of the building's power is provided from certified renewable energy sources
- Green roof above the auditorium as well as on top of the office tower which helps to minimize urban heat island effect and reduce storm water runoff
- Potential for over 90% daylight views in tenant spaces
- No smoking on the premises
- Bicycle storage and changing rooms for bicyclists
- Easy access to public transportation; Multiple transportation lines (bus, rail, water taxi) within less then a 1/4 mile from the building
We are also one of the first Chicago buildings to participate in Close the Loop, a program dedicated to creating a positive force for social and environmental change within our community by promoting reuse and recycling, and building the acceptance and use of alternative recycled materials.
The Close the Loop recycling plant, within 175 miles from our location, helps to cut down on resources used in the recycling process. As an environmentally responsible building, 353 N. Clark uses converted paper products (i.e. hand towels and toilet paper) recycled directly from our building materials.
