Mesirow Financial Announces New Partnership With United Way in Chicago's Brighton Park Neighborhood
Firm focuses on education initiatives in neighborhood as part of its community engagement strategy

CHICAGO, March 25, 2013 — For more than 75 years, Chicago-based financial services firm Mesirow Financial has been engaged in the community – donating funds, volunteering hours, advising nonprofits and more. Today, Mesirow Financial announced a new strategic partnership with United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, through the commitment of both financial and volunteer resources, to specifically support a new education initiative in the city's Brighton Park community.

Last week, United Way unveiled their groundbreaking new social services model aimed at integrating education, income and healthcare to address the socioeconomic challenges of communities. United Way has identified the southwest side community of Brighton Park as the inaugural community of focus in their new LIVE UNITED Neighborhood Network.

"Mesirow Financial is proud to partner with United Way on this exciting new initiative," said Kristie Paskvan, CFO of Mesirow Financial and United Way of Metropolitan Chicago board member. "We share the same belief that education and economic stability are intrinsically linked, and that through the investment of organizations like ours we can positively impact the families and businesses of the Brighton Park community."

Through the new LIVE UNITED Neighborhood Network, Mesirow Financial's funds will support a program that places neighborhood parents in each of three middle schools in Brighton Park to provide in-class assistance to teachers and students. The parents are provided with skills training and stipends for their work, which contributes to the community's economic development. Additionally, Mesirow Financial will provide volunteers, as well as expertise and leadership through speaking engagements and mentoring in Brighton Park, to augment the impact of the financial investment.

"We're thrilled to partner with Mesirow Financial and connect their investment and employees with the community impact work we've implemented inside the Brighton Park neighborhood," said Wendy DuBoe, president and chief executive officer at United Way of Metropolitan Chicago. "While we have many significant partners investing in our community fund supporting more than 40 communities of greatest need, Mesirow Financial is the first partner to make a targeted investment in the LIVE UNITED Neighborhood Network initiative and we're so appreciative for that."

The partnership launches a new strategic and formalized direction for Mesirow Financial's community engagement, which will focus funds and volunteer resources around education.
