CHICAGO, May 4, 2011 – North Shore-based founders of The Great Frame Up, David and Marlowe Klitzky, announced today that the "2011 The Lisa Show" Student Art Program "Best of the Best" Exhibition honoring top high school student art pieces will be held May 9-13 at the Thompson Center, 100 East Randolph, Chicago. The exhibit is open to the public.
The exhibit features the top winning pieces of art by students from 27 different Chicagoland high schools - more than 100 pieces will be on display. The artwork includes five different categories: painting, drawing, three-dimensional, photography, and graphic communication and design. The students compete for higher learning scholarships sponsored by the Klitzky's and Mesirow Financial. "'The Lisa Show' program gives us the opportunity to give back to the community on an annual basis," said founder, David Klitzky. "I personally really enjoy meeting all of the 650 students and discussing their art with respect to the medium they used, their techniques, color pallet, what their future goals are and hearing what inspires them to create their art."
We have been thrilled to be a part of this unique program that provides much needed arts support to Chicago area high schools." said Julie E. Vander Weele, Senior Managing Director of Mesirow Financial's Investment Advisory group. "The quality of the art at the high school shows has been amazing. It will be exciting to learn who will be awarded scholarships on May 15."
The Lisa Show
The Lisa Show was introduced in 1994 when The Great Frame Up founders, David and Marlowe Klitzky, realized funds for local high school art programs were diminishing. The solution was this program, where their six Chicago-area Great Frame Up stores adopted community high school art departments. The Klitzky's renamed the program in 2003: The Lisa Show = Life is Simply Art, in honor of their daughter Lisa, a graphic designer who loved all things about art, lost her battle with a very rare form of cancer at 25.
The stores sponsor 27 juried art exhibitions for the high schools February through April, donate all of the 650 frames for all of the art work and display it for three weeks at their closest store. The five "best of show" winners from each high school then have their art on display May 9 through May 13 at the Best-of-the-Best exhibition held at the Thompson Center, 100 West Randolph Street, in Chicago. On May 15 the winners of the higher-learning scholarships will be announced.
The Great Frame Up has been framing memories and art for 40 years. A small company that was started on the north side of Chicago, The Great Frame Up strives to provide high-quality framing, either do-it-yourself or custom, for your unique style and personality.
