Mesirow Financial Strengthens Its Institutional Sales Team
CHICAGO, IL, August 23, 2016 – Mesirow Financial announced today that Eugene J. Duffy has joined the firm as a managing director in the Institutional Sales and Marketing group. Duffy will help and maintain some of the firm's existing institutional relationships and will be responsible for developing new institutional business, primarily in the public and corporate sectors.
Prior to joining Mesirow, Duffy built an impressive record as a partner with a quantitative domestic equity firm, a national multidiscipline real estate corporation, and specialized as a regional fixed income investment advisor. Duffy’s achievements in financial services were preceded by his previous record of distinction in the public sector. Duffy served in several cabinet posts for two legendary Atlanta mayors, Maynard Jackson and Andrew Young. His tenure saw him play lead or major roles in numerous municipal undertakings.
“Eugene’s professional accomplishments and service to the community will be an asset to the team and to our clients,” said Tom Hynes, senior managing director and head of Mesirow Financial’s Institutional Sales and Marketing group. “We look forward to drawing on Eugene’s unique history and distinguished track record to enhance and improve the firm’s existing relationships while creating new alliances and opportunities. We are thrilled to have him as part of Mesirow Financial.”
Duffy studied English and political science at Morehouse College, where he was awarded the Charles E. Merrill scholarship for international studies and attended the University of Ibadan in Ibadan, Nigeria. His honors include the Maynard H. Jackson Entrepreneur of the Year Award and his selection by the University of Western Cape, Belleville, South Africa to lecture on participatory democracy in South Africa.
Duffy’s civic and business engagements include previous membership on the board of directors of Sunrise Bank. He is a trustee and former chair of NAACP Foundation. He is a board member and former chair of the National Association of Securities Professionals (NASP), a widely respected trade association. He is also a member of the Radcliff Bailey Guild at The High Museum of Art and a director for the Atlanta Jazz Society.
As a trustee with the Willie L. Brown Jr. Institute on Politics and Public Service, Duffy interfaces regularly with academicians, labor leaders, elected officials and other policy makers on issues of governance and capital markets. His service as a member of the Dodd Frank mandated SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) Investor Advisory Committee was met with public praise. The 21-member committee advises the Commission on regulatory priorities, the oversight of security products, trading strategies and fee structures.
With residence in Atlanta, GA, he will be located in Mesirow Financial’s Atlanta, GA office.
