Kristie Paskvan Named Corporate Citizen of the Year

Chicago, June 28, 2017 - Kristie Paskvan, CFO/COO of Mesirow Financial, has been named Corporate Citizen of the Year by The Executives’ Club of Chicago. This annual award, given by the premier business forum in Chicago, was presented to Paskvan in honor of her creation of Chicago Says No More, and her tireless pursuit of ending domestic violence and sexual assault.  The mission of Chicago Says No More is to create awareness of the breadth of the problem, to develop new education efforts and to sustain engagement by concerned citizens, corporate leaders, legislators and service providers. Together, they positively affect change in  how domestic violence and sexual assault are addressed throughout Illinois  as well as the entire country.

“Ultimately, we are measured as a society by how we advocate and care for our most vulnerable members. That’s why Chicago Says No More wants to transform the way we talk about domestic violence and sexual assault, so victims seek assistance and support,” shared Paskvan.

Through Paskvan’s leadership, Chicago Says No More has created and implemented five outcome-focused task force groups, taking on specific challenges to tackle these issues and to develop and implement notable accomplishments sustainable in the future.

Most recently, through the Salon Professionals Task Force, the Cosmetology Renewal License Domestic Violence Course (HB4264/PA99-0766) became an Illinois law effective January 1, 2017. Illinois was the first state in the nation to require domestic violence and sexual assault awareness training for salon professionals, whose clients often share confidential information with them. During its initial phase, Chicago Says No More will offer free training to 88,000 salon professionals over the next two years.

In late January, Paskvan mobilized 45 CEOs and key leaders to review a Workplace Employee Assistance Program Model Policy addressing how to best assist employees impacted by domestic violence or sexual assault.

Additionally, with the understanding of the inherent risks of sexual assault on college campuses, a College Campus Task Force was created, with the goal of reaching out to campus leaders to reduce, and end, campus violence.

“One in three women and one in seven men will experience some sort of intimate violence in their lifetime. Survivors often don’t talk about these events.  Chicago Says No More focuses  on initiatives that  encourage individuals to get the help they desperately need and to reduce violence in our communities,” stated Paskvan.
