Mesirow Financial was founded when Norman Mesirow purchased a seat on the New York Stock Exchange.


The firm began serving institutions by adding sales and trading capabilities.


We petitioned the NYSE to allow member firms to offer life insurance and subsequently offered P&C, employee benefits, and personal lines.


We began serving corporations and offering private equity, investment banking, public finance and sale-leaseback capabilities.


We introduced our first alternative investment solutions.


We added capabilities in asset allocation strategies and manager selection for institutions as well as compensation and executive benefit strategies for companies.


To better serve our global client base and expand our international presence, we opened a London office.


We were proud to move into our new LEED gold certified corporate headquarters in Chicago.


We established a China market development initiative and opened an office in Hong Kong.


Our oldest business changed its name to Wealth Advisors to more accurately reflect our holistic approach to helping clients achieve their life goals.


We strengthened our Equity Management capabilities with the acquisition of Fiduciary Management Associates, Inc.


Our Insurance business joined Alliant Insurance to create a powerful Midwest presence.


Mesirow Financial celebrated 80 years of the success that outstanding client service brings.


With the addition of a premier high yield and leveraged loans investment management team, we complemented and enhanced our existing fixed income management strategies.


We acquired assets of The Cambridge Strategy Limited (TCS), a UK-based currency alpha investment firm.

Mesirow Currency Management AUM reflects assets under management for both currency risk management products (passive and active management) and alpha and macro products. Risk management product AUM reflects the total foreign currency portfolio exposure of passive and active clients’ underlying portfolios allocated to the Currency Division. Alpha and macro product AUM reflect the client’s total investment amount in the alpha and macro strategies of the Currency Division, which is calculated based on an annualized 2% volatility target. The current allocation to the currency sleeve of the Enhanced Core Plus Fund is a notional 10%. Some assets under advisement are on a 45-to-90-day lag due to time needed to confirm away assets. Assets reported include $7B, as of 6.30.20, in assets under advisement. As of 7.31.20, an additional 93 plans and $2.2B in assets under advisement are reported which are a result of Retirement Advisory Services’ partnership with CIBC Corporate Retirement Services.
